Dentist Offers Custom Mouth Guards

As a dentist, Albert Pizzi can't do much to prevent local athletes from being tackled, blocked, or bowled over. But what he and his fellow doctors at Artistic Dentistry of Hanover are doing is helping to protect high school students from concussion. For the past 15 years, the Webster Street business has provided free custom-made mouth guards for football, basketball, soccer, and hockey players at Hanover and Norwell high schools. Studies show a properly fitted mouth guard can reduce trauma caused by a head injury.

"Making these mouth guards isn't anything we make a big deal of," said Pizzi, a former high school football player who graduated from Springfield College with a degree in physical education before going to dentistry school "I've always been concerned about athletes and concussions," Pizzi said.
